At ENT for Kids Alabama our professionals are highly trained individuals with the knowledge and experience to provide your child with the best healthcare to meet any issues related to your child’s ear, nose, and throat. About Dr. Shirley:

W. Peyton Shirley, MD FACS

Dr. Shirley was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree from Duke University. He then completed medical school at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, recognized as one of the top 10 medical universities in the country. He came to Birmingham for his residency in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After completing his five years of residency he went on to complete a two year Pediatric Otolaryngology fellowship at the Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh, one of the first established and most highly esteemed pediatric fellowships in the country. After completing his fellowship Dr. Shirley and his family looked forward to returning to Birmingham, and he was honored to start working as a staff pediatric ENT surgeon at Children’s of Alabama. He for 9 years served as a UAB Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology, and he helped to educate and train many ENT residents. He is an active staff member of Children's of Alabama, andperforms surgery at both the Children's Main hospital and the Children's South outpatient surgery center. In his new office Dr. Shirley's goal is toprovide a high level of individualized, knowledgeable, expert care, while aiming to streamline the office visit and offer an efficient patient focused experience. Furthermore, the office incorporates the latest in technological advancements to help provide excellent care for the patient and help aid the family in having a full understanding of their child’s condition.



About Nurse Practitioner Amy Barnes:

Amy Barnes, CRNP


Amy is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, and Throat). 

She earned a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Alabama at Birmingham and holds national certification through the PNCB. Prior to joining ENT for Kids Alabama, Amy gained valuable experience as a pediatric ENT Nurse Practitioner at Children's Hospital of Alabama for 10 years. She provides comprehensive evaluation and management of conditions ranging from chronic sinusitis and ear infections to allergy-related disorders, hearing loss, and voice or throat concerns. She will also perform in-office procedures such as removal of ear wax and foreign bodies.

Amy works closely with Dr. Shirley and our audiologists to create personalized treatment plans that improve   patients' quality of life.



About Audiologist Dr. Chelsea Love

Chelsea Love, AuD CCC-A

Dr. Foglio

Chelsea Love earned her Bachelors of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorder from University of Central Florida and her Doctorate of Audiology from Nova Southeastern University. During graduate school, she volunteered at the Special Olympics, worked as a newborn hearing screener and an audiology assistant at a pediatric private practice. Chelsea finished her clinical rotations at UAB Civitan Sparks Clinics, a multidisciplinary clinic that provides services to children and adults with a variety of learning disabilities, developmental delays, or behavioral challenges. Following graduation, Chelsea started her career as a pediatric audiologist at Children’s of Alabama, where she found a passion for newborn hearing screening follow up and diagnostic testing for all ages. She is certified by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association and licensed by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.



About Audiologist Dr. McKenzie Burns

McKenzie Burns, AuD CCC-A

McKenzie is a pediatric audiologist with a passion for helping children and families navigate hearing health from infancy through adolescence. She holds a Doctorate in Audiology (AuD) from Auburn University and certification through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

With specialized training in pediatric hearing assessment and intervention, McKenzie provides comprehensive diagnostic services, including newborn hearing screenings, behavioral and objective hearing tests, and hearing aid fittings. 

McKenzie is known for creating a welcoming, child-friendly environment where families feel supported and understood. She is passionate about empowering parents with knowledge and tools to help their children thrive in school, communication, and everyday life.
